How To: Upcycled Christmas Wreath
Jean, the crafty and creative mama behind @itsjeanlum on Instagram has created an upcycled Christmas Wreath we can make with our tykes using leftover items from home.
With excess waste from packaging, wrapping paper, cards and food expected to increase by 25 to 30% during the festive period, this upcycled craft is not only easy to do but a great way to use up leftover shopping bags from our Christmas shopping!
First here are the items you will need:
Materials
- 1 plastic bag
- 1 paper bag
- 1 chips bag
- 1 scrap piece of cardboard
- Glue + Scissors
Now, let’s get started!
- First, cut your scrap piece of cardboard into a donut shape with a hollow center for the wreath base.
- Next cut the plastic bag, paper bag and chips bag into strips of about 2 inches. Keep some strips of the paper bag to one side to use later.
- Cut the remaining strips even further into smaller pieces about 1cm wide.
- Glue the small 1cm strips to the cardboard, creating your own preferred design and slowly work your way round the donut shape.
- Take your saved paper bag strips and cut them to form your own Christmas wordings. For this wreath, I decided to cut out “Ho Ho Ho”.
- Glue your words to some string (the paper bag handle or any other leftover string you have at home) and attach the ends to the back of the wreath ensuring your words can be seen through the middle.
- Find the perfect spot to hang your upcycled wreath to complete your Christmas corner.
