Being surrounded by family, playing with lanterns, and enjoying mooncakes are musts during the Mid-Autumn Festival!
Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Moon Festival, is just around the corner! This is the day of the harvest moon celebration that takes place when the moon is at its fullest. This day falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar (typically in September or October). Singapore is one of the several Asian countries which celebrate this festival alongside countries like Hong Kong and Vietnam. Mid Autumn Festival is often celebrated with mooncakes, lanterns and dragon dances!
Here is an awesome way to use upcycled materials to celebrate Mid Autumn Festival! We've found a few fun DIY lantern alternatives so that your tykes can showcase their personalities by making one that is in modern pastels tones, another that looks like their favourite animal, or one that is more traditional. These lanterns come in all shapes and sizes, so don't be afraid to modify according to your preference!
TRADITIONAL INSPIRED LANTERNS

There are several ways to make a lantern but often, traditional lanterns are made with red and gold paper. Red is considered a prosperous colour. Red traditional Chinese lanterns are a staple of any Chinese celebration. You often would see them dotted all over the city during times of celebration.
